The WFR SubClub presents One Shot.

Our first magazine cover CD.
3 WFR artists.
3 incredible live sets.

A magazine cover CD was probably the easiest decision we have ever made. A total no-brainer. But what will be put on there? Rather than focusing on studio tracks, we invited 3 of the most talented artists we know to show off their performance skills in a live, improvised setting.

Session 1 - Cholly

Cholly, aka Chloe Tennant, buzzed the WFR tower with a sensational improvised Ableton set during a recent Twitch streaming session, recorded at her home studio in High Wycombe in March 2022. Her amazing knack for processing, looping and deconstructing her own vocals, found sounds and cut up beats put Cholly in a class of her own.

Session 2 - Letters From Mouse

Our good friend Letters From Mouse (real name Steven Anderson) has transitioned his production ethic from workstation productions to a mostly modular approach, and this live recording is testament to his ability to craft the most amazing sounds. Full of melody and invention, LFM bends and warps his way to euphoria and back in less than 20 minutes.

Session 3 - Sulk Rooms

Sheffield’s Tom Ragsdale, aka Sulk Rooms, is no stranger to live performances, and this recording proves it. Tom’s weathered and otherworldly ambient tracks are fed through his trusty reel to reel for extra wobble and flux which, combined with his trademark oceanic reverb, take you into another realm entirely.

Far more going on here than mere nostalgia trip. Surprisingly deep, smooth but assertive bass lines and frequencies help sets this apart from cosmetically similar sounding releases. I love cassettes but this ABSOLUTELY belongs on heavyweight vinyl. Anthony Childs
